HOW-TO: Paper Size Chart

The chart below lists paper sizes, in inches and centimeters, for all common paper sizes used with word processing and other office software. I created this reference chart for internal use when I was working with both US Letter and A4 paper sizes. I posted it so that I could use it when working off site, and to share with other computer users around the world.

Cosiderations for North American Residents

In North America, the default paper size is Letter. The pages of A4 documents are slightly narrower and longer. Therefore, if you expect an A4 document that you receive to print substantially the way it did on the sender's A4 paper, you must decrease the left and right margins by 0.23 inches and decrease the top and bottom margins by 0.19 inches.

Cosiderations for Residents Outside North America

Outside North America, the default paper size is A4. The pages of Letter documents are slightly wider and shorter. Therefore, if you expect a Letter document that you receive to print substantially the way it did on the sender's letter paper, you must decrease the left and right margins by 0.5842 centimeters and increase the top and bottom margins by 1.7526 centimeters.
